Ignore the fact that the episodes are a bit dated, meaning the glam and outfits are very 2000s-this show packs a sassy punch serving the perfect amount of Girl Boss.

Rising up from her position as “washer woman” to developing hair products made for women of color, this entrepreneurial story defies all odds. More than a beauty story, this series touches on Sarah Breedlove (Madam C.J.’s birth name) born to former slaves who eventually came to be the richest self-made woman in America. Based on true events, “Self-Made” is a fictional depiction of the story of Madam C.J. Walker This limited series is based on the book On Her Own Ground by A’Lelia Bundles and stars Hollywood darling, Octavia Spencer. The family (including little brother Austin) strives for a normal life and while it seems like they just might get it but the past seems to have a way of catching up with them. We have scoured through Netflix to find 5 shows that you have probably missed and will undoubtedly love-the twist is that they are not only hidden gems but they have strong female leads. However, we undoubtedly can relate to missing out on some great shows or sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and not being able to find something to watch. Netflix has just about everything but have you ever logged into a friend’s or relatives’ account and thought, “Why didn’t I see that show on mine!?” The Netflix algorithm is brilliant and we are not complaining about having hundreds of shows at our disposal.
